“Everybody wants to be the DJ,” sang Soulwax, back in the day. But do they? Startup Stationhead has built growing momentum with its user-generated radio service where anyone can launch a channel, but efforts by Amazon Music (Amp) and Spotify (Music + Talk podcasts) were less successful and eventually shut down.
Now B2B firm Tuned Global is having a crack at the challenge with its new ‘Social Radio’ feature. Well, it’s a software development kit (SDK) for the company’s clients, which they can integrate into their streaming or radio apps. It will enable their users to create mixes of songs, while inserting voice commentary and sound effects. There’ll be a comments facility for listeners, and the music will be smoothly mixed together using the AutomixIQ tech that Tuned Global acquired with startup Pacemaker.
